A 34-year-old man from Stoneridge Park is battling for his life in hospital after he was attacked in a violent incident reportedly linked to a dispute over a woman at a bar in Waterfalls, Harare.
The victim, identified as Godwill Murindi, was drinking at Jimmalo Bar in Amsterdam Park, Waterfalls, when the incident occurred. He had reportedly been in the company of a woman he had met earlier at the establishment.
According to police, an unidentified man confronted Murindi, accusing him of having a relationship with his girlfriend before launching the attack.
The suspect allegedly first used pepper spray on Murindi and then struck him once on the head with a small axe before fleeing the scene.
Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the incident.
"The complainant was attacked with an axe and sustained a deep cut on the head and was bleeding profusely," he said.
Police said the suspect fled immediately after the assault and remains at large, while investigations are ongoing.
Murindi was rushed to hospital where he is said to be in a critical condition.
Authorities have urged anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect to come forward.
