The City of Bulawayo has advised residents, motorists and stakeholders of temporary road closures on Thursday this week to accommodate the official opening of the 66th edition of the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF).

In a statement, Town Clerk Mr Christopher Dube said the affected roads will be closed from 07:00 hours to 17:00 hours to allow smooth conduct of the high-profile event.

The closures will affect Hillside Road between 14th Avenue and the 23rd Avenue/Burns Drive intersection, as well as Samuel Parirenyatwa Street between 12th Avenue and 14th Avenue.

Mr Dube said diversion routes will be clearly signposted to redirect traffic via Matopos Road and the 12th Avenue Extension. Traffic officers will be deployed to manage movement and ensure safety.

"All junctions off Hillside Road between 23rd Avenue and 12th Avenue will be closed during the official opening of the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair and will be manned by a traffic management team," he said.

Motorists travelling through the affected areas have been advised to use designated diversion routes and, where necessary, comply with instructions from traffic management personnel, including making U-turns to access alternative routes.

Mr Dube also said access to properties within the closed zones will be facilitated under the guidance of traffic officials.

"The motoring and general public are advised to exercise extreme caution when entering and exiting these locations and to observe all warning signs," he said.

He added that measures have been put in place to minimise disruption to traffic flow, businesses and residents during the closure period.
