A teacher at Bonda Girls High School in Mutasa District, Manicaland, is reportedly on the run after being implicated in an alleged sexual misconduct case involving a female pupil.
According to an internal report released by the school, security personnel received a tip-off on the evening of 24 June that a female pupil had allegedly entered a teacher's private vehicle and had been taken to his residence.
The report states that security officers tracked the vehicle and intercepted it after the pupil was seen leaving the house and getting back into the car.
School authorities said the pupil was immediately placed under protection and escorted to the headmaster's office, while the accused teacher allegedly fled before he could be questioned.
Preliminary findings cited in the report indicate allegations of an inappropriate sexual relationship between the teacher and the pupil. The matter was immediately reported to the Zimbabwe Republic Police, which has opened a criminal investigation.
According to ZiFM Stereo News, the teacher remains at large while police continue efforts to locate him.
The school said the pupil was referred for a medical assessment and psychosocial support, while her parents or guardians, education authorities and the School Development Committee were notified of the incident.
In its report, Bonda Girls High School described the alleged conduct as a serious breach of child protection policies, professional ethics and Zimbabwean law.
The school said the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education had also been informed to facilitate disciplinary processes, including possible suspension and deregistration proceedings against the teacher.
Meanwhile, the school announced a review of its security procedures and child protection systems in response to the incident.
Authorities said counselling services would be strengthened and the school's Child Protection Committee reactivated as part of efforts to enhance learner safety and prevent similar incidents.
Police investigations are continuing.
