A WOMAN who quit her Wall Street banking job for a new life in the African bush has revealed that her traditional thatched-roof home in Zimbabwe came with an unexpected and terrifying roommate - a huge python living in the ceiling.
Influencer Alex Blumenfeld, known online as Alex Blumy, has gone viral after leaving the high-pressure world of investment banking in New York City for a job at a remote wildlife conservation reserve in rural Zimbabwe, where she works in fundraising and digital media.
However, shortly after moving into her new home, which is surrounded by wilderness, Blumenfeld realised that staff and neighbours appeared unusually interested in how she was settling in.
She said people repeatedly asked her: "How is the house treating you?" — questions she initially assumed were simply friendly.
She later discovered there was a reason for their curiosity.
According to reports, previous occupants had noticed a mysterious brown substance dripping down one of the bathroom walls. Maintenance workers were called in to investigate what was thought to be a plumbing problem.
Instead, they reportedly discovered a 12-foot python living in the eaves of the ceiling.
The workers allegedly failed to remove the snake and instead left it in place.
Blumenfeld revealed the unusual discovery in a house tour filmed in July 2026 and posted on TikTok.
At the end of the video, she zoomed in on the roofline, showing the python still occupying its spot and appearing to peer down from the ceiling.
The revelation quickly attracted widespread attention online, with users amused by the idea of Blumenfeld unknowingly moving into a home already occupied by a giant snake.
One viral reaction on Threads read: "I'm obsessed with this woman on TikTok who quit her job as an investment banker in NYC, moved to Zimbabwe, and found a python living in her ceiling."
Others joked that the python appeared less than impressed with its new human housemate.
One user wrote: "To be clear the python is saying ‘Is that an American?! IN MY HOUSE?!'"
Another joked: "No, she's living in his basement."
A separate commenter added: "No ma'am, that's his house."
Blumenfeld has continued documenting her dramatic career change on her @alexblumy TikTok account, sharing glimpses of life in the Zimbabwean bush.
Her experiences have included finding scorpions in her bed, encountering spitting cobras during morning walks and hearing hyenas attempting to get into her home at night.
Despite the risks and unusual encounters, Blumenfeld has said she would make the move again "10 times over".
Her story has since offered followers a striking glimpse into the realities of swapping the skyscrapers and financial markets of New York for the unpredictable wildlife and remote landscapes of rural Zimbabwe.
