SA truck driver 'threaten to kill' Zimborders agent

A 45-year-old South African truck driver has been fined US$160 and deported after he allegedly threatened to stab a Zimborders customer service agent during a dispute over the parking of his truck at Beitbridge Border Post.
Gcwalisiwe Nkomo, who is employed by Eagle Truck Logistics, appeared before Beitbridge Magistrate Gillian Padzakashambwa on Wednesday facing a charge of threatening to kill.
The incident occurred at about 3am on Sunday at the South Bound Terminal of Beitbridge Border Post.
The court heard that Nkomo was instructed by Paul Muzumbani, a Zimborders customer service agent, to properly park his truck after it was allegedly blocking the way and preventing other trucks from passing.
Nkomo reportedly objected to the instruction, responding in a loud voice that he had been directed to park at the particular spot by a Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) official.
An argument subsequently broke out between the two men.
According to the prosecution, Nkomo then went to his truck, retrieved an okapi knife, opened it and allegedly threatened to kill Muzumbani while pointing the knife at him.
Muzumbani reportedly alerted security officers who were conducting patrols at the border post.
The officers searched Nkomo and recovered an okapi knife, resulting in his arrest.
Nkomo was subsequently brought before the court, where he was fined US$160 and ordered to leave the country.
The case was prosecuted by Reason Mutimba.
