Mnangagwa pledges US$2 million for Makandiwa's new church

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has pledged US$2 million towards the construction of a new church for the United Family International Church (UFIC) in Harare.
The pledge was announced by UFIC founder Emmanuel Makandiwa during a live Sunday service at the church's Basilica in Chitungwiza.
Makandiwa told congregants that Mnangagwa had instructed him to commence work on the project and submit quotations for the required construction materials.
"So he said start the work, and you find the materials that are needed, come to me, give me the quotations, and he will pay US$2 million in his own personal capacity," Makandiwa said.
The proposed church is expected to accommodate 10,000 worshippers.
Makandiwa also expressed his appreciation to businessman Wicknell Chivayo and his wife for contributing US$1 million towards the project.
He further acknowledged three luxury vehicles gifted to him and his wife, Ruth, by the Chivayos — a 2026 Rolls-Royce Cullinan Black Badge facelift, a 2026 Mercedes-AMG G63 G-Wagon and a 2026 Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600, which he said was an anniversary gift.
UFIC spokesperson Pastor Prime Kufakunesu, who was appointed to the Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe (BAZ) board by Mnangagwa last week, said the church was humbled by the support.
"This is beyond what words can explain. You saw how the people rejoiced; it shows their joy and gratitude for what the First Family has done for us as a church," he said.
Kufakunesu also encouraged others to contribute towards the construction project.
"The door is still open for all those who would like to partner with the project to put their hands where the President of the nation already has," he said.
