CBZ branch robbed in armed ATM blast

A CBZ Bank branch in Murewa, Mashonaland East Province, was robbed early Tuesday morning, with armed robbers allegedly escaping with US$30 000 and ZiG15 000 after blasting open the bank's ATM.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) had not released details of the incident by the time of publication.

However, ZBC News understands that the robbery occurred shortly after 2am on Tuesday.

According to information at hand, two of the five suspects allegedly attacked a security guard stationed at the CBZ branch, while the other three proceeded to nearby premises, including CABS Bank and Teachers Hardware.

Security guards at the two premises reportedly managed to escape unharmed.

The suspects then allegedly blasted open the CBZ ATM before fleeing with the cash.

Police are expected to provide further details as investigations into the robbery continue.
