In a long and winding interview between Professor Jonathan Moyo and Supa Madiwanzira on ZiFM, the Professor says 'Mugabe lost 2008 election to a 'proverbial' donkey.'

In his own words, Professor Moyo said: "I think a political donkey would, by the way I don't think that this is bad after all because the Democratic party in America uses a donkey as its symbol and the Americans were involved along with their cousins the British in the formation of the MDC. So the people who are associated with the MDC, I think would like to believe should not be offended by any association of their leader with a proverbial donkey but a donkey is a representation of something which is good for nothing ah but which benefit from the circumstances from the moment. As far as am concerned and am not the only one even as I was outside the party at the time, I did not believe that this country deserved to have the MDC leader as the leader of the country. And in order to dramatise that message I thought as I still do now I could not come out with a better characterisation than to says Watch out Work very hard if you don't you will lose to a donkey and the donkey did win and this is a fact and it is up to people to choose which aspect of this they want to emphasise they can say oh, but you said the president was going to lose to a donkey and say that was somehow unbecoming or they will say infact a donkey did win and all hell almost broke loose as a result."

The interview was conducted a week before Mugabe signed the new constitution into law.

Prof Moyo defends himself and Zanu-PF policies.
