An 18-year-old man from Domboshava, Success Mukaro, has been found guilty of unlawfully entering and stealing cellphones valued at US$16,915 from the Borrowdale shop owned by Miniyothabo Chiwenga, wife of Vice President Constantino Chiwenga.

Harare magistrate Ethel Chicheta convicted Mukaro after he pleaded guilty, with sentencing scheduled for this Friday.

The theft occurred on May 31, 2025, around 3 pm. Ossie Shone, a supervisor at Miniyothabo's shop, Style By Minie V.V.I.P, had locked up the premises and taken the keys off duty that day.

Mukaro broke the shop's front glass display wall, creating an opening through which he entered and stole the cellphones before fleeing the scene.

On June 3, detectives received a tip that stolen phones were being sold at Ximex Mall. They recovered several phones from a suspect named Blessed Luciano, who admitted purchasing the phones from Isaac Craig Chaza on June 1.

Further investigations led police to recover more phones from Chaza after luring him by posing as buyers. Chaza and another individual, Steve Makangira, then directed detectives to Mukaro.

Mukaro was arrested on Jason Moyo Street while with his brother and was found in possession of more stolen phones. Additional cellphones were recovered from his home in Domboshava. His fingerprints matched those found at the crime scene, cementing his involvement in the robbery.
