The visiting Chinese delegation from Sinosure has expressed optimism that the refurbishment of the Morton Jaffray water treatment plant under the US$144 million loan facility will help end the capital city's water woes.
The high powered delegation from Sinosure, a firm that insured the US$144 million loan to the Harare City Council from the China Export and Import Bank, says the refurbishment of the water treatment plant will increase the water treatment capacity.
In an interview with the ZBC News soon after a tour of the Morton Jaffray water treatment plant, the head of delegation, Mr Chen Zuofu said the firm remains committed to the successful completion of the rehabilitation works and expressed Sinosure's commitment to support future capital projects by the City of Harare.
Harare City Council Town Clerk, Dr Tendai Mahachi said the council is grateful of the assistance from the insurance company, adding that the completion of the rehabilitation work is set to ease the capital city's water woes.
It is anticipated that refurbishment of the water treatment plant under the loan facility will increase the water treatment capacity by 140 megalitres from the current average of 600 megalitres a day.
Harare has been experiencing water problems with obsolete equipment being the chief reason.
