The National Constitution Assembly (NCA) has officially transformed itself into a political party which is going to be actively involved in all political contestations and participation.
Addressing hundreds of NCA delegates, journalists and observers at its special congress held in Harare on Surtaday, NCA Chairperson Lovemore Madhuku said the MDC has failed to bring a democratic society which can only be achieved by coming up with a people driven constitution.
"When they got into power we thought they were going push for the democratization of all institution. Even when I was beaten together with Tsvangirai our first priority was to come up with a democratic constitution which limits the power of the president to abuse his power. He now gang up with Zanu pf to come up with a document which is bad for the people of Zimbabwe.
Professor Madhuku said he will not going to forgive the MDC party for shear wastage of sixteen years to liberate the people of Zimbabwe and suddenly betrayed the people of Zimbabwe
"I will not forgive the MDC for leaving Zimbabwe with a bad and undemocratic constitution. They wasted our struggle when they got the chance to deliver a people driven constitution. We are now transforming the NCA to compete for any political space and office. We are now a political party.
"Now the MDC has left us with a much bigger burden as they agreed to write a constitution which is even bad than the Lancaster House Constitution. How will we explain all this to an 18 year old child that the NCA want to write a people driven constitution when he voted in a referendum in which he presume was voting for a new and people driven constitution?," said Madhuku.
Madhuku said COPAC Co-Chairs Douglas Mwonzora and Munyaradzi Paul Mangwana failed to secure their parliamentary seats due to their double standard in constitution making process instead of addressing real issues that are debilitating economic and political issues in their constituencies.
"Mangwana and Mwonzora paid their price for tempering with people's writing and forcing them to vote YES for a bad document. Mangwana even failed to secure victory during Zanu PF's primary elections. They hoodwinked the people of Zimbabwe to endorse a document that they don't even understand themselves. Look at what happened on the issue of Mayors, Mwonzora approached the wrong court and that shows he doesn't understand his product," said Madhuku.
Lovemore Madhuku dismissed all allegations and reportage by print and electronic media that the NCA has been abandoned; he said it has been democratically through its all members transformed into a political party.
Some interested observers who attended the congress include MDC99 President Job Sikhala and representatives from the Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Union and Emmanuel Chiroto a former MDC-T deputy mayor.
