Mayor arrested for assaulting a municipal employee

MDC-T Chitungwiza mayor Councillor Phillip Mutoti was last night arrested for allegedly assaulting a municipal employee in the town.
Police spokesperson chief superintendent Paul Nyathi confirmed last night that Cllr Mutoti was facing assault charges for beating Mr Matthew Mateo Kamurai but said investigations were still underway to establish what transpired.
"We have recorded statements from Chitungwiza mayor Phillip Mutoti and he is assisting us with investigations. Unfortunately I cannot provide details at this stage as I am still receiving information on events leading to the assault. We are still investigating the matter," he said.
Although Chief Supt Nyathi declined to provide more details, The Herald said it understands that Cllr Mutoti allegedly hurled a brick at the worker who sustained injuries.
The condition of the worker could also not be ascertained last night.
