'Eric Knight did not join Zanu-PF'

Losing MDC T Mbare candidate and disc jockey Erick Knight is reported not to have been responsible for the much publicised report that he had quit the MDC-T and was joining Zanu-PF.

According to social network reports by those close to Knight, he is a victim of a "domestic dispute with his brother" who got hold of his cellphone and sent out the incorrect information to the media.

A Facebook update of early this morning by Boaz Mangamiso an MDC-T top voice who is in Harare reads: "Erick Knight did not join Zanu pf but he has a bad domestic issue wit his brother Partson Murimoga who reported e story to e media and later blocked Eric's SIM pack which was in his name".

According to Mangamiso, Knight's original phone number has since been unreachable and is using a new number. "Up to now Eric's Whatsapp is off-line he is using a new Sim Pack" wrote Mangamiso.

Hours later in the day, Mangamiso has sent in another update indicating that Erick Knight is at Harvest House, MDC-T head quarters to clear his name. The statements have been met by mixed reactions from other people within the MDC-T questioning why and how Knight as a media personality is not handling the smear campaign himself.

Knight made headlines mid last week when reports were splashed in the media indicating that he had defected from the MDC-T to join Zanu-PF.

The reports came hot in the heels of his earlier statements that he was quitting politics to pursue his carrier in broadcasting.

Rumours immediately sparked off that Knight had been coerced into joining Zanu-PF by the Ministry of Broadcasting and Information with an offer to give him a top job in proposed community radio stations.

Some rumours indicated that Knight had been recruited back into Zanu-PF by his long-time friend Leo Mugabe who Knight in his days at Radio Zimbabwe always protected while he was under fire for poor management of the Zimbabwe Football Association.

Knight (46) a married man also hit headlines over the weekend accused of sleeping with a 19 year old girl who has openly acknowledged her relationship with the disgraced former DJ.

Rumours following up the latest reports seem to suggest that Knight's reported clash with the brother is over his relationship with the teenage girl.

If any of the reports are of any significance Knight has a mammoth task trying to rebuild his name within the opposition parties and friends.

When reports came out in the media and social networks, Knight got himself a barrage of insults and criticism mainly from the MDC-T supporters while at the same time received very warm "welcome" from Zanu-PF supporters and officials including Zanu-PF spokesperson Rugare Gumbo.
