President Robert Mugabe has paid tribute to civil servants who are bearing the brunt of economic hardships brought about by illegal sanctions, saying when the country's economy improves those who have resisted the temptation to leave will be richly rewarded.

President Mugabe made the remarks at Harare Hospital today while commissioning state of the art medical equipment worth over US$100 million, procured under the Chinese Facility Supported Medical Equipment Project.

The state of the art medical equipment will be distributed to all government referral hospitals, provincial and district institutions to cater for all critical emergency and terminal units.

President Mugabe reiterated that government has always prioritised social services due to the critical role played by the masses in liberating the country.

He saluted patriotic Zimbabweans who have sacrificed for the country by getting remuneration that is not commensurate with their qualifications.

Mugabe described China as a humble giant that sustained America during the global economic meltdown, noting that even up to now the US has still not repaid its debt to China.

The commissioned medical equipment facility was financed through a loan availed by the China Exim Bank.

China's Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Ambassador Lin Lin pledged his country's continued support to Zimbabwe.

Earlier on, President Mugabe toured Harare Hospital's Intensive Care Unit in the first floor which has been refurbished and installed with new equipment by a Chinese company called CMBC.

The unit is equipped with nine high dependency beds that are monitored by a single computer, making it much easier for nurses and doctors.

Samples of the equipment that include mobile medical clinics, ambulances, operating lights, monitors, ICU beds, feta heart detectors, ultra sound scanners, incubators and operating theatre beds, among others were displayed and Mugabe was taken through after his speech.
