Under‑fire Citizens Against Economic Sanctions (CAES) director Martin Zharare has appeared in court in Mount Darwin facing two counts of fraud.
Zharare appeared before magistrate Patience Chirimo, who remanded him in custody.
Prosecutor Albert Mazhindu told the court that sometime in July 2025, Zharare went to Plot Number One, Panorama, in Mount Darwin, where he allegedly addressed villagers claiming he was drilling boreholes under a Presidential scheme.
A senior citizen, Tawodzera Leonard (74), was reportedly convinced by Zharare’s presentation and gave him US$1,500 for a borehole that was never drilled.
The State further alleges that Zharare used the same modus operandi on Shylock Kajamu, a former headmaster, whom he allegedly duped of US$1,600.
