Rapist jailed 12 years

A man from Beitbridge who grabbed a fellow resident into the bush where he threatened to stab her before rapping her at knife point has been jailed 8 years effective for rape.
Majeyi Reason Phiri (23) was denying the charge when he appeared before Beitbridge Regional magistrate Trinos Wutawashe but was convicted and sentenced to 12 years in jail.
Four years of the sentence were suspended for five years on condition of good behavior. He was left to serve eight years in jail.
The court was told that on March 10 2016 the complainant went to Makakabule Clinic to collect her medication, and at 12 noon she met Phiri on her way out for the clinic.
She was using a short cut back to her home when Phiri followed her, and she tried to run away.
Phiri gave a chase and caught her before pointing a knife threatening to stab her.
He then lifted her up into the bush and raped her. The lady later reported the rape to her father and a report was made to the police leading to Phiri's arrest.
