Matabeleland South MDC-T youth assembly chairperson Morgan Ncube has been further remanded in custody to early July for allegedly calling President Robert Mugabe a baboon.
Ncube appeared in Plumtree Court on Friday morning were he learnt of his further detention until July 6.
The court insist that it is in the interest of the public that Ncube remained behind bars.
It is an offence under Zimbabwe's laws to undermine or insult Mugabe who has ruled since the country's independence from Britain in 1980. MDC-T provincial youth spokesperson, Bulletsi Nyathi said Ncube appeared in high spirits when he took to the stand.
"Ncube was jovial in court today. He appeared in good spirits as he knows that he has no case to answer. It just victimisation," said Nyathi.
Nyathi said there was overwhelming moral support from the party as members of Matabeleland North and South executives were in court to show solidarity.
