A 27-year-old Beitbridge man has been fined R1 000 (or 20 days in jail) for stealing two frozen packs of chicken pieces worth R100 from a local restaurant.
Bongani Mafu, of House Number 83, Dulibadzimu Township in the border town, was convicted on his own plea of guilty to a theft charge by Beitbridge provincial resident magistrate, Ms Gloria Takundwa.
The prosecutor, Mr Jabulani Mberesi said that on 12 February at about 7pm, Mafu went to Mashakada business centre.
While at the business centre, he proceeded to Florentine Restaurant where he broke into the kitchen and stole two packets of frozen chicken pieces, which were kept in the fridge.
Soon after committing the offence, Mafu hid the loot in a plastic bag.
He ran out of lucky after an alert security guard manning the premises intercepted him and searched him leading to the recovery of the meat.
The matter was reported to the police leading to Mafu's arrest.
