BUBI farmer, businessman and chairperson of the recently launched Bulawayo-based Nyanda pressure group, Geneva Sibanda, has hit back at former National Healing, Reconciliation and Integration co-minister Moses Mzila-Ndlovu saying he took him to a kangaroo court.
Mzila-Ndlovu was on Tuesday detained by Bulawayo police for allegedly threatening to assault Sibanda for causing confusion by announcing that he had been appointed Nyanda vice-chairperson without his consent.
Sibanda said Mzila-Ndlovu had called him on the day in question at around 4;45pm requesting that they meet at Lapp House at the corner of 8th Avenue and Jason Moyo Street without specifying reasons for the meeting.
He said Mzila-Ndlovu directed him upstairs to the third floor where he was ushered into the boardroom.
"On entering the room, I was surprised that the room was full of MDC members," he said.
Sibanda said he was asked to respond to allegations of texts by Nyanda members that they viewed as hostile to the leadership of the Welshman Ncube-led MDC.
"I responded to all their questions, but Mzila-Ndlovu did not take kindly to my responses and became emotional," he said.
"He started insulting and threatening me. He was constantly restrained by his party colleagues.
"This man is extremely violent and in my own assessment is a risk to other people.
"He clearly needs some help considering that just two months ago he was in court for an armed robbery case."
Sibanda said Mzila-Ndlovu denied being vice-chairperson of Nyanda despite existing evidence.
"Nyanda provided Mzila-Ndlovu with emotional support during his armed robbery case as their member," he said.
"He deceived me by implying some urgency for his intention to meet me yet he had a premeditated intent to cause harm on me.
"I'm not a member of any political party and see no reason for Mzila-Ndlovu to call me to an MDC meeting.
"A man of his standing should lead by example not to subject people to kangaroo courts purely because one constructively criticised his party."
Mzila-Ndlovu was recently acquitted of armed robbery charges.
Sibanda said he called the police to come and rescue him from Mzila-Ndlovu's alleged threatening behaviour.
Sibanda charged that Mzila-Ndlovu pretended not to know what Nyanda was all about yet he is the bona fide vice-chairperson of the organisation.
"He had no reason to call me to an MDC meeting. I am not and will never be a member of that party," he said. "I am not a violent person and have never been at a police station or court as an accused person."
