HWANGE - POLICE have reportedly seized 20kg of $100 counterfeit notes at the coal mining small town on Tuesday evening and arrested four men connected to the 'dirty' deal.
The four member gang was also each found in possession of fake identification cards and an AK-47 riffle with unspecified riffles of ammunition.
It is believed that the busting followed a lengthy surveillance operation by the cops. Following the arrest there are fears that thousands of notes have already been released into the market through-out the country. The gang is also suspected to be part of a racket which prints and circulates fake money before going around the country duping unsuspecting businesspeople and members of the public.
The source, source said, also wanted to smuggle the fake money to Zambia.
Contacted for comment, Matabeleland North Police boss Sipiwe Makonese said they were yet to receive reports on the matter.
