ZANU-PF factional fights took a violent turn in Gwanda this morning with party members turning the streets around the party offices into a war zone.

According to reports from sources within the party, the fight was against some party members who had been initiated from Harare to oust Provincial Chairman Andrew Langa who is believed to be in the unwanted Joyce Mujuru faction. Reports claim that the move did not go down well with the members in Gwanda who expressed their loyalty to Langa and Mujuru.

In the process of trying to push the idea of ousting Langa, it is reported that the members loyal to Langa could no longer tolerate the motives of the members calling for the vote of no confidence against the chairman resulting in a fist fight.

The fight which is said to have started inside the office involving yet to be named senior members of the party had to spill outside the offices into a free for all street fight. Members of the Zimbabwe Republic Police had to be called in to control the fighting members.

When Bulawayo24 news crew arrived at the scene there was reasonable calm (picture above) but with members of both the police force and the party still loitering around the party offices. None of the party members in the area were willing to open up to the press but only revealed that the party leadership was in a meeting inside the offices while they wait for a briefing outside.

Zanu-PF factional wars are gradually spreading around the country as it now appears apparent that the party wants to get rid of all provincial executives who are backing Vice President Joice Mujuru in the run up to the December elective congress. Matebeleland South province is generally believed to be one of the provinces strongly behind Mujuru who is expected to square up against Emmerson  Munangagwa in the powerful post of first vice president who will be an automatic heir to aging President Robert Mugabe in the nearest future.

In recent events, the Gwanda Zanu-PF members quickly threw away an attempt by some sectors of the Women's league to name one of the town's oldest schools after First Lady Grace Mugabe move which put the Zanu-PF Gwanda district leadership under focus.

More details on the stand off will be made available as soon as they are made available. Bulawayo24's whatsapp platform remains open for online updates from any sources around the area to seen through their information as it happens.
