Brutal crime of passion, man gouges lover's eyes - Video

A taxi driver in Gweru's Mkoba 17 brutally murdered his girlfriend by ripping her stomach open and gouged her eyes before attempting to commit suicide.
The taxi driver, who has only been identified as Charles, is alleged to have stabbed his girlfriend with a kitchen knife and used a screwdriver to gouge her eyes in a brutal crime of passion.
He also used a brick to bash his girlfriend's head.
The deceased has been identified as Fadzai Chipfunde.
After the brutal murder the taxi driver allegedly attempted suicide by drinking a pesticide.
He however survived and was rushed to Gweru Hospital where he is battling for his life.
It is alleged the man had been incensed by his long time girlfriend's decision to terminate their relationship.
The ZBC News visited the house in Mkoba 17 where visibly shocked residents were gathered outside still trying to come to terms with the heinous act.
The police and the relatives of the deceased were retrieving the deceased's body from her bedroom where the gruesome murder occurred.
The deceased's aunt, Precious Mudavanhu, confirmed there was a misunderstanding between the two after her niece had ditched the taxi driver.
According to statistics from the office of the Registrar of the High Court, by June in 2013, there had been a 60 percent increase in the number of crimes of passion as compared with the previous year.
