Woman collapses after seeing horned snake at her workplace

Never seen before!

A Hwange woman collapsed when she came face to face with a horned snake at her workplace.

Monde Mathe employed as a grounds lady by the Hwange Colliery Company narrated her near fatal experience.

"I was emptying a plastic bag I was using to gather leaves into a bridge next to where I work when I heard movements.

I leaned over the bridge to see what it was only to be greeted by a huge snake with what looked like horns on its head.

Amazed and shocked at the same time at the sight of the strange creature I decided to take a picture of it so I could show my colleagues of what I had seen in case they did not believe me and that's when all hell broke loose," she said.

Sadly she couldn't capture the snake's footage.

The snake rose from the ground to a one metre level when she tried to take a picture. Thereafter, she collapsed.

"I didn't even check to see if there was a vehicle coming. I just started screaming when I saw the strange snake rising from the rubble. Afterwards I blindly crossed the road and passing out on the lawn. It's a miracle I didn't get knocked down by a car," she said.

Mathe insisted that she had seen the strange creature even though people would not believe her story with some saying she had actually seen a lion. Some claimed that they did not find anything when they investigated the scene.

"I grew up in the rural areas where I have seen different types of snakes but I have never seen that type of snake or encountered such phenomenon.

"Some people would quickly dismiss what I saw as my imagination but I saw what I saw clearly to an extent that I had to be given sleeping pills after I had trouble sleeping after my experience.

"The scenes of what I had seen kept replaying in my mind I even had nightmares," she said with tears almost clouding her eyes.

A horned snake that is prominent is found in desert areas. It is the horned viper but there are no records of its existence in Zimbabwe.
