ZAPU membership on the rise

07 Nov 2014 at 22:16hrs | Views
ZAPU is experiencing an extraordinary large number of ordinary members of the public joining its party structures country wide and in the diaspora. Of late a quite large of number of people is contacting the party making inquiries about how to join ZAPU structures at various branches in the country.

It now looks like hard work has finally paid for ZAPU as many people now seem convinced that   the devolution of power concept is the only democratic model of governance that offers greater transparence, checks and balances, political and fiscal autonomy; localized decision making, economic and social growth.

ZAPU's proposed regional assemblies across five provinces in Zimbabwe will be established to increase political participation at lower social levels and embracing all forms of diversity across all levels of social structures in Zimbabwe.

Khumbulani Dube in his email stated "I have been following your articles on devolution and many other articles about ZAPU, I have to say that the devolution of power principle is the best form of governance ever proposed in Zimbabwe, it is clear that it will benefit everybody in country"

Of late ZAPU has been inundated by requests for membership and ZAPU is pleased and humbled by the people's support.

People feel short changed by Zanu-PF factionalism and Zanu-PF style of patronage and self-serving leadership. Instead of concentrating on economic revival Zanu-PF has decided to turn on itself leaving people without any hope of improvement. Zanu-PF appointments have always been made on political patronage basis and such people have unlimited access to unofficial salaries and allowances and opportunities to profiteering through corruption.

It seems that corruption in Zanu-PF has become the norm, the way their system works. Corruption is a clear sign of leadership failure at the highest echelons of the government. It only takes a political will and seriousness to eradicate and completely stamp out corruption.

People are now fed up with the 34 years of promises of good life that has not materialized or yielded any benefits to the ordinary men and women in the street.

ZAPU is changing the political discourse in the country, through its sound policy proposals. The people are now choosing ZAPU because its approach recognizes the rights of the people. ZAPU understands the human psychology very well, in order to unleash human potential, one has to accord people with the respect they deserve through participatory politics which acknowledges the need for people to control their local resources.

At the lowest level of citizenry Zanu-PF's strategy of political patronage erodes service delivery, collapses the rule of law and encourages dilapidation of social and economic infrastructure. The politics of patronage leads to inadequate water and electricity supply, poor education and medical care for the ordinary people, this leads to people losing sense of self-esteem, confidence and material independence. People are now aware that Zanu-PF political patronage is dysfunctional because of the personalized way it addresses problems and offers nothing to ordinary people whose aspirations and dreams for better life have always been deliberately thwarted by Zanu-PF to make people depend on it so that they can exercise exploitative control over people's lives.

ZAPU is confident in the capacity of people to engage at grassroots to transform the economy and their own lives. ZAPU will achieve this by devolving power to provinces; full autonomy of regional assemblies to ensure and aid people in deciding their future.

The cost of the policy of appeasement by Zanu-PF of a narrow section of influential people is alienating large segments of the population whose potentials have been curtailed. Zanu-PF's propensity for self-destruction through politics of patronage is astounding. Zimbabweans from all walks of life have come to realize that they have all along been held hostage and indebted to this system of patronage.

People are now joining ZAPU because ZAPU provides a safe space for them to begin a genuine journey to self-determination and prosperity which comes with the rewards of devolution.

ZAPU has adopted the model of devolution to fulfill the aspirations and potential of the Zimbabwe society based on local politics, local budgets, local community economic and social development.

On the 5th November 2014 ZAPU held one of its rallies at Sontala in Matobo District, where President Dumiso Dabengwa gave a scintillating speech in front of several hundred people. ZAPU throughout the world is slowly taking root, last weekend it saw many branch meetings held in South Africa and in Leeds, UK.  A new ZAPU   office was opened in the last few weeks  in the central business district in the heart of London.
