BULAWAYO giants Highlanders' treatment room has been overwhelmed and the football side will not participate in any pre-season friendly matches, at least for now, ahead of the 2013 season.
Most Premier Soccer League clubs have been involved in pre-season friendly matches in preparation for the league which is expected to start on March 29.
Head coach Kelvin Kaindu confirmed the development to NewsDay Sport yesterday.
"We are not playing any friendly game this weekend. Some players are injured so we want them to rest. Mthulisi Maphosa, Simon Munawa and Innocent Mapuranga are limping. Bhekimpilo Ncube is also injured as well as Mgcini Sibanda. Ariel Sibanda is not feeling well.
"We want to just practise and do some light training. The injuries are not serious save for Mgcini," he said.
The Zambian gaffer said despite the injuries, preparations for the season were progressing well.
Highlanders beat Botswana side Tafic 1-0 in a friendly match in Francistown on Saturday courtesy of a goal from returning striker Njabulo "Tshiki" Ncube.
"Everything is on track for the season. We created a number of chances and many shots on target despite that we got one goal against Tafic. We are still hoping there will be an improvement before the season starts," said Kaindu.
Njabulo has given hope to Kaindu in the strike force department where Bosso have been blunt.
The former Be-Mobile striker played for Highlanders in 2011 before returning to former Premiership side Quelaton.
He will fight for the first team jersey upfront with Graham Ncube, Beaven Chikaka, Knox Mutizwa, Ozias Zibande and Cleopas Dube. Njabulo also scored in Highlanders' 2-0 win over league debutants Tripple B at Barbourfields Stadium on March 3 in another pre-season friendly.
Earlier, Highlanders had lost 2-0 to South African Premiership side Mamelodi Sundowns in a pre-season international friendly at Barbourfields on January 30.
Highlanders went on to lose 2-1 to Dynamos in the first leg of the Bob 89 Super Cup at Barbourfields before they were drubbed 4-0 in the second leg at Rufaro Stadium.
