THE Castle Lager Premier Soccer League is the seventh best sponsored league in sub Saharan Africa.
The comparison of 14 sub Saharan African countries was recently done by Supersport Soccer Africa and it suggests with a total sponsorship package of $1,2 million the local elite football league, is better bankrolled as compared to leagues in Ivory Coast, Kenya, Democratic Republic of Congo, Malawi, Mali, Swaziland and Zambia.
Teams in Ivory Coast play in a $1 million sponsored league while Kenya's Tusker Football League is bankrolled to the tune of $ 645 000.
According to Supersport Soccer Africa DRC's topflight league is the 10th best sponsored league with a total package of $523 000.
With a total sponsorship package of $454 000, Malawi's league falls on number 11 with Mali's Orange top flight league coming 12th on a total sponsorship package of $450 000.
In Swaziland the league that has a total package of $140 000 and as a result, they come out number 13.
The comparison also points to the fact that the football league in Zambia which is bankrolled to the tune of $83 000 is on number 14.
Leading the pack is the $17 million sponsored South Africa's ABSA Premiership and the comparison suggests that Nigeria Glo bankrolled league is the second best with a total of $4 million being poured in.
The $2 million sponsored Ghana's First Capital Bank Football League is on number three. Tanzania's elite football contest also enjoys a $2 million sponsorship package.
BeMobile reportedly pours in $1,4 million into Botswana's topflight league making it number five in sub Saharan Africa.
MTN also sponsor the league in Cameroon for a total of $1.4 million.
