Champion "Mbewe" Chienderamwano etched his name into the history books after winning the Mr Zimbabwe title for a third time on the trot on Saturday night.

The event attracted high level dignitaries led by Sports and Recreation minister Makhosini Hlongwane.

Sports and Recreation Commission board chairperson Edward Siwela, director-general Charles Nhemachena and director of sports development Joseph Muchechetere were also in attendance.

The Botswana-based hulk became only the third man to win Mr Zimbabwe men overall title three times in a row.

First on the list is the late George Takundwa, who won the title in four consecutive years from 1981 to 1984.

Chienderamwano is now level with Givemore Marume, who won the title from 2001 to 2003.

"I'm not worried about breaking any records but just want to make my own history so I will take a year's break to focus on something different from competing and get back to bodybuilding the following year," an ecstatic Chienderamwano told the Daily News after the contest.

"I would like to thank God for all the blessings, my wife for all the love and care as well as the legion of fans under Team Champion who have supported me all the way.

"I have suffered criticism in the last couple of years but criticism only made me the man that I am today and I must say this is just the beginning I'm looking forward to more fruitful years when I bounce back from my sabbatical."

On his way to the overall title, Chienderamwano won the senior men bodybuilding over 90kg category ahead of former Mr Zimbabwe Tarirai Chirume and Brighton Mazikana, who finished in second and third place respectively.

In the overall men line-up, the 30-year-old shrugged off stiff challenge from under 90kg category winner Dumiso Dhodhlo, Isaac "Sugar" Chimuchenga (under 80kg) and under 70kg winner Garikayi Mujuru.

Ms Zimbabwe title went to in-form South Africa-based Regina Jonga, who was too good for former winner Christine Matange.
