Former Zimbabwe Warriors captain Benjani was absent as Blackburn's squad flew to an Austrian training camp, raising doubts over whether he will be staying at the club.

Benjani was recently 'offered' a new one-year deal at Blackburn Rovers after insisting he has never considered looking for a fresh challenge elsewhere.

The 32-year-old former Zimbabwe international striker moved to quell suggestions that he was set to leave Ewood Park this summer, despite being on the club's released list as his contract expired on June 30.

Benjani was adamant that he had been offered a new 12-month deal by Rovers chief Steve Kean and was all set to put pen-to-paper to stay on at the club for next season.

The former Portsmouth and Manchester City hitman, who scored three league goals for Rovers last season in 18 appearances, told the Lancashire Telegraph at the end of June: "Yes, yes, I will be back at Blackburn Rovers again next season. I think the deal will be finalised in the next few days and then I can look forward to doing my best with the club."

However, as Kean and the majority of his Rovers squad jetted out to Austria for a week-long pre-season training camp on Sunday, Benjani was nowhere to be seen and it looks like he has still not finalised his new contract which places a question mark over whether he will be saying put after all.
