AFTER so much bickering over the Miss Zimbabwe beauty show, the Miss Zim Trust has announced that they will not be sending any representative to the Miss World finals this year. The Trust's chairperson, Mary Mubaiwa-Chiwenga, said they were delaying the hosting of the pageant this year because they were not impressed by the finalists.

Mubaiwa-Chiwenga shot down rumours that her board was ill-prepared and failing to get enough sponsorship to host the show.

"We are not in a hurry to have a pageant now, infact, this year we are not sending any girl to the Miss World beauty show because there is no time and we are yet to get quality models.

"We are awaiting for schools, colleges and some universities to open so that our teams can go for serious girl searching," she said.

The former Supermodel winner said she was working on revamping the pageant.

"There are a lot of requirements at the Miss World competition and mind you, we are not just sending a representative but a competitor. We can even host the pageant at the end of the year and groom our queen until the Miss World 2014 and by that time she would be ready to roll," she said.

She highlighted that among the listed requirements by the world's biggest modelling show was a full DVD of charity work, a properly designed national costume and a minute long music dance compact disc.

"It's a tall order and we no longer have time for that, so we have shelved it for sometime and that is my approach to handle this pageant professionally," said Mubaiwa-Chiwenga.

There have been mixed feelings on the recent disqualification of models by the Miss Zim Trust but she defended her move saying it was for the good of the country.

"People have said to us, we like your approach, we have so many sponsors, local and foreign who would not want to see their money go to waste and as such we will take our time," she said.

Last year, the country was represented by Miss Zimbabwe 2012 Bongani Dhlakama who put up a dismal performance due to lack of preparedness and a myriad of other challenges.

This year a majority of finalists from the provinces were disqualified, as they failed to meet the standards of the pageant.

Mubaiwa-Chiwenga who is 1,79 metres tall said emphasis was on height and weight.

"We are looking for tall girls like Malaika Mushandu who is 1,82 metres tall. Height is one of the most important aspects at the international showcase," she said.
