Accident survivor beaten up

THERE was drama at corner Manchester and Simon Mazorodze roads on Monday when a Harare man assaulted his son's pregnant girlfriend over an accident which damaged his Elgrand car.
Angered by something between the fact that his car was damaged in the accident and the serious injuries to his son, the elderly man asked the ambulance officials to wait whilst he physically assaulted his son's girlfriend
"Kana kujeri ndoenda," he was heard shouting as he dragged the woman, only identified as Winnie, away from the crowd before tackling her I to the floor.
"Amurova skuna apo mukadzi wacho anga atokuvarawo neaccident. After that he started hitting her whilst she was on the ground before people restrained him.
"We are not sure why he was hitting her but he kept saying ukuda kuuraya mota yangu nemwana wangu? His wife helped in calming him down but it was not easy" said one of the eye witnesses at the scene of the accident
H-Metro heard that Winnie is three months pregnant and her boyfriend was forcing her to abort the pregnancy but she was against the idea.
Winnie is said to have first attempted to commit suicide whilst she was at work and her boyfriend was called to come at her workplace.
He then tried to force her to abort and was reportedly driving her for the illegal abortion when the accident happened.
The eye witness said the woman reportedly turned the steering whilst she was in the car with her boyfriend attempting to cause an accident in a bid to kill herself and her boyfriend in an argument over the pregnancy.
The incident happened around lunch time.
Winnie and her boyfriend were ferried to a hospital where they sought medical treatment
It could not be established from the accident survivors whether the story of Winnie pulling the steering wheel to intentionally cause the accident was correct as the parties where immediately I whisked away by the ambulance crew.
However, the behaviour of the father in law grabbed more attention than the accident and the fate of the survivors as he even denied his son to urgent treatment to "deal with Winnie."
The fact that he ordered the ambulance to delay rushing his unconscious son to hospital just so he could beat up Winnie shocked and angered many people.
"Instead of ensuring that his son gets urgent help after the nasty accident that saw his car overturning and landing on its roof all he wanted to do was beat up his daughter-in-law!
"It shows all he cared about is his car which was damaged. A normal father would have attended to his son at least before trying to punish whoever might have caused the accident.
"I wish the men here had beaten him up after he hit that defenceless girl," said a visibly agitated woman who was at the scene of the accident.
H-metro could not ascertain the identity or state of the abusive mans son by the time of going to print.
