Afro band Mafikizolo are to reunite after a long absence from the music scene. Nhlanhla Nciza and Theo Kgosinkwe, who make up the band, will be the centre of attraction during the Moretele Park Tribute Concert in Pretoria on September 1.

The duo will be the main act during the Amstel Golden Hour which gives artistes the privilege of an hour-long performance.

Other artistes who have featured in the Golden Hour slot include Zakes Bantwini, Lira, Zahara, HHP, Hugh Masekela and TKZee.

Mafikizolo have not been on stage for about a year. They are currently in studio where they are working on a comeback album.

"It could not have been at a better time. After a long time, it's a blessing to be given an opportunity to reconnect with our fans," said Nciza.

Kgosinkwe said they would be performing old tunes to reconnect with fans.

Nciza added that the music landscape had changed since releasing their last album "Six Mabone" in 2006.

"We have new sounds and we will use the stage to share them with our fans so they can look forward to the new album," explained Nciza.

The concert is a celebration of South African music legends as they strive to keep music alive with a thrilling performance on September 1. Mafikizolo joined in the concert in 2001, which led to other non-jazz artistes following suit.

Kgosinkwe said: "The concert has been all about jazz legends celebrating themselves.

"I think the audience missed the groovy part in the concert, they wanted to dance.

"Given that we are the young ones, we are celebrating our legends."

The top acts line-up includes Jonathan Butler, Letta Mbuli, Zahara, Jonas Gwangwa, Ringo, Zonke, Tsepo Tshola, Vusi Mahlasela, Philip Tabane and Mi casa.
