DESPITE being labelled a "bedroom" producer, Bulawayo musician Polite Tichivangano, aka P2daoh, has defied all odds by emerging as one of the local sought-after producers.

P2dao, a former Luveve High School student, has a music career dating back to his early teens.

The 30-year-old talented musician said he received his music calling about 14 years ago during an era when kwaito music was the most popular genré in the city.

Although the genré was at that time synonymous with crime, P2daoh joined a kwaito group – Black Magic and began a journey of a career in music.

However, due to a myriad of problems besetting the music industry, his group died a natural death prompting the passionate musician to move to "greener pastures" in South Africa where his music composing skills were nurtured.

In South Africa he became the "most wanted" producer after successfully proving his flair in composing beats.

He then worked with Mzansi's rising stars Mpho and Sisiyanti whose singles became local club bangers.

The Bulawayo-born musician-cum-producer has worked with local artistes such as kwaito prodigy PoZee and Willis Watafi, among other local household names.

He is currently based in Bulawayo where he doubles as director and producer of Kasilami Art Platform (K.L.A.P) ' a local hip-hop group comprising about 14 upcoming artistes.

Having a seemingly brighter future in an industry whose future is uncertain, the soft-spoken musician has seen light at the end of the tunnel.

"I still have a lot to do and achieve. Being a music producer is a skill that needs perfection," he said, adding music was one of the rapidly growing industries.

Like most local artistes, the talented producer is facing set-backs such as lack of funding long blamed for stunting the music industry.

He is among local producers whose major setback is lack of equipment as he currently operates from his Luveve residence in Bulawayo. His group K.L.A.P is set to perform at this year's third edition of Zimbabwe's Hip-hop Awards scheduled for next month.
