Koffi Olomide heading to Zimbabwe

Famed rhumba musician Koffi Olomide is heading to Zimbabwe for the Carnival Rhumba Night to be held next week Thursday at Long Cheng Plaza.
Organisers of the Harare International Carnival, the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA), yesterday said rhumba lovers must brace themselves for a thrilling night with the France-based musician and a host of local rhumba outfits.
"We cannot talk of rhumba music without mentioning Koffi. He will be supported by local rhumba musicians such as BV Labien and Diamond Musica among others," said ZTA spokesperson Sugar Chagonda said.
The show is being supported by the DRC ministry of Tourism in partnership with ZTA.
The Congolose rhumba maestro, known for his raunchy dances, last visited Zimbabwe during President Robert Mugabe daughter Bona's wedding.
With hits such as Effrakata, Loi, V12, and Abracada-bra under his belt, rhumba lovers are assured of some music and dance never seen on stage before.
The Paris-based music mogul and four-time Kora award winner, including continental awards, boasts of 30 years of experience in music.
Meanwhile, Chagonda said 24 countries have so far confirmed their participation at this year's street party procession scheduled for October 10.
"As is the tradition with street parties, revellers will be free to drink beer which will be available at designated points. We are inviting everyone to come so that we can all participate as Zimbabweans in this historic event," he said.
Now in its second year running, the Harare International Carnival has grown in stature and status, drawing hundreds of thousands of people into Zimbabwe to experience the country's warm hospitality and culture.
Chagonda said today (Saturday), the Carnival goes rural with a ceremony in Chihota under Chief Nyandoro. Residents of Chihota and surrounding areas will dance to the rhythm of traditional drums at the Carnival Bira that will see Doro Remukwerera brewed for a traditional ceremony to usher the rainy season, in line with the Zimbabwean cultural pantheon.
Red Fox Hotel, commonly known as Kumarasta, on Tuesday next week will host the Ragga Socca Night headlined by Orlando Octavo from Trinidad and Tobago, and Melody from Jamaica supported by local acts among them Guspy Warrior, Ninja Lipsy, Logan and Slash T, Red Fox Sound and Judgement Yard.
Private Lounge on Wednesday will host the potentially explosive Samba Night, featuring Brazilian samba dancer Momo King, Democratic Republic Congo belly dancers and local pole dancers Beverly Sibanda and Zoey Sifelani. The potentially explosive Tuku and Friends Concert has been pencilled for Glamis Stadium in the capital on Friday, featuring an array of local artistes among them sungura ace Alick Macheso, Sulu Chimbetu, Jah Prayzah, Peter Moyo and Dr Zobha. At Harare Gardens, dancehall fans will be in for a treat as Passion Events hosts Zimdancehall Nite, featuring both upcoming and renowned chanters.
Next Saturday it's Carnival Street Party with a procession from Civic Grounds to Africa Unity Square.
