DStv announced on Monday that the pay-TV service will be adding another SuperSport channel, SuperSport 9 (SS9) from Tuesday, 6 August.
The new channel, to be found on DStv channel 209, effectively picks up where the now-defunct US sports channel ESPN left off when it ceased broadcasting in Africa on 31 July, and will feature a variety of American-based sports previously carried on ESPN.
These include live college basketball and football and boxing. SS9 is also the new home for live EFC Fight Nights and brings action from the various domestic soccer leagues across the African continent to South African viewers.
SS9 will be available to DStv Compact, Extra and Premium customers.
SuperSport Select, on DStv channel 229, which was previously available to Access and Family customers, will now also be available to Compact, Extra and Premium customers and features a variety of live and packaged sport, including local football and boxing, varsity sports events and rugby and cricket played within South Africa.
Commenting on these latest developments, Brandon Foot, SuperSport's Head of Acquisitions and Legal, said: "In the last few weeks, we've secured the rights to a number of sporting events. These additional SuperSport channels allow us to showcase this content and offer DStv customers even more sports variety and entertainment."
DStv Compact, Extra and Premium customers can keep an eye on the schedules from Tuesday, 6 August for more information.
