A 51-year-old South African mother from Barcelona near Daveyton in Ekurhuleni whose son is a nyaope addict claims that her son is "possessed by satanic spirits."
According to Daily Sun, Meme Rankeng is known for helping people through prayer, but she is struggling to help her 25-year-old son, Tsholofelo Modiakgotla.
Meme blamed nyaope for all the terrible things that happen in her son's life.
Nyaope is a whitish powder - low-grade heroin mixed with ingredients such as rat poison and sometimes even crushed-up medicine for people with HIV.
"Not only does he smoke nyaope, he is also possessed by satanic spirits," she said.
Daily Sun reports that the woman showed them a piece of paper on which was written: "I want to go to hell cause I am a piece of sh*t. It doesn't make sense to go to heaven."
Meme said: "The only clothes he has are the ones he is wearing.
"He started by stealing cold drink returnable bottles, then sold all his clothes."
He admitted that he did weird things in the past.
Tsholofelo told the newspaper that he used to jump fences and walk around with no clothes on "every time I lost my mind."
"I almost died in a holding cell at Etwatwa Police Station, where I was sexually molested.
"I blame this place for my mental disturbance and all the bad things that happen in my life. I want to leave."
Tsholofelo said the words written on the piece of paper his mum found were lyrics of his new hip hop demo song.
He said they had nothing to do with Satanism, and that he did not smoke nyaope but only smoked mbanje.
Meme has tried praying and getting help from social workers and cops, but nothing has changed.
Tsholofelo has agreed to go to rehab on condition that he stays with his relatives in Daveyton when he returns.
Sello Mokoena of the Department of Social Development told the People's Paper: "Our regional director will assign a social worker to investigate."
