A Johannesburg motorway has collapsed crushing on to the busy M1 highway in Sandton this afternoon.
The motorway which was still under construction at the Graystone off ramp crushed mid afternoon under yet to be cleared circumstances.
It is suspected that several vehicles are crushed under the collapsed structure.
Emergency services personnel and South Africa National Roads Agency Limited (SANRAL) engineers have rushed to the site.
No details have yet been released on how many vehicles are under the rubble nor how many people are in the vehicles.
This will be the first such incident to happen on the massively constructed South African roads in a longtime.
Details are still coming through and a media statement will be made later by SANRAL and Gauteng Provincial Government officials later this evening.
