The newly established primary school for the flood victims in Mwenezi received a shot in the arm when the University of Zimbabwe library donated 300 books to it last week.
Tokwe Mukosi Primary is a school catering for children of thousands of floods victims moved to Chingwizi Transit Camp to clear way for the Tokwe Mukosi Dam in Masvingo Rural.
The children there are using makeshift tents or studying under trees as classroom blocks are still to be constructed.
Masvingo Mirror reported that the donation was made by the UZ deputy librarian, Yeukai Chimuka.
This was made under a programme where the University adopted Tokwe-Mukosi Primary as part of UZ's 60th anniversary celebrations. The University aims to bring good results to Tokwe-Mukosi under this programme.
Chimuka urged the children to read the books and look after them properly.
"A book can bring life and all it needs is to be read. Keep the books properly, books are gold," said Chimuka.
She also urged parents to build a library for the books and promised that the UZ would donate more books to the school.
An education officer who was representing the provincial education director (PED) Richard Magomo urged parents to give their children wealth through education.
Runesu Isaac, a parent who is also a builder said he was ready to support the school in building a library.
The school head Laimon Matavire thanked the UZ library for the donation. "This donation will help enlighten the pupils and increase their vocabulary", said Matavire.
