A Florida jury reportedly wrestled with facts for six hours before hitting the gossip news website Gawker with a $115 million leg drop for publishing a sex-tape of the retired professional wrestler Hulk Hogan, whose real name is Terry Bollea.
Mr Hogan's legal team argued the New York-based website violated his privacy and the video was not newsworthy.
The case, which pitted freedom of the press against a celebrity's right to privacy, has been closely watched.
The video was posted in 2012 after Mr Hogan was secretly recorded having a nice time with his friend's wife.
The jury found the gossip website invaded the wrestling icon's privacy when it published the grainy footage.
The St. Petersburg, Fla., jury awarded $55 million for economic injuries and $60 million for emotional distress.
