CHIREDZI - Mathematics is believed to be one of the oldest subjects in living memory, and history assumes that after the development of language, humans began counting, and that fingers and thumbs provided the natural abacus.
However, after the realisation that most the worlds modern problem could only be solved by mathematics; Babylon provided far more advanced first geometrical and algebraic calculations, with quite complex problem featuring on cuneiform tablets
Since then mathematics rapidly spread in other countries like Egypt and others and various names emerged which included Pythagoras, Euclid and Archimedes.
In modern day, maths is the most revered subject on the entire universe, and teachers for the subject remain scarce. Unfortunately, the majority of people have faced challenges in solving mathematical problems, leading to them either dropping the subject or avoiding it completely.
Luckily, some schools have gifted mathematics teachers and one of them can only be founded at Tamar Academy in the form of Mr Luke Mashopeko, who is regarded as the best mathematics teacher in the country.
Mr Mashopeko, has positively transformed the lives of many people. He is so exceptional that he can teach any topic at any level from grade 7 up to A Level without much dependence on textbooks despite the student being a slow learner.
This has seen an influx of maths students at the school since the college opened its doors early this year in Chiredzi. Tamar Academy is situated at Stand number 1189 in Tshovani Township, just opposite Christian College, the college is enrolling one-on-one ZJC, O level, A level, day and night as well as weekend and holiday classes, at affordable prices of $30 a month or $90 per term.
When reached for comment Mr Mashopeko said: "I am overwhelmed by the response that I am receiving from Chiredzi residents. I thank them for their support and I hope we will continue to work together in harmony. Three months after the official opening of Tamar people are already showing confidence in me," he said.
