Bulawayo Vendors Trust blast ZPCS for invading vending space in Bulawayo

The Bulawayo Vendors Trust blast has accused the Zimbabwe Prisons Services (ZPCS) invading vending spaces in Bulawayo for invading vending spaces and sell cabbages in their official prisons trucks without getting approval from Bulawayo City Council on Friday 16 June 2017.
BVTA said it feels that this is short-changing vendors and informal traders who pay for their licences to the local authority.
"BVTA acknowledges economic hardships faced by everyone in the country where citizens have turned into vending as a source of livelihood, however that is not the ticket to abuse Bulawayo City Council Bylaws and have unfair advantage over vendors and informal traders who are paying for their vending licences," said the trust.
"BVTA urges ZPS to engage Bulawayo City Council and get permission to sell their products to avoid unnecessary collision with vendors as witnessed on Friday 16 June 2017. BVTA commends the Bulawayo City Council for reacting swiftly to protect the vendor's right to sell without hindrance when the crisis was brought to their attention."
BVTA said it has also observed that some political parties are unfairly coercing vendors to attend their meetings, we therefore urge political parties to respect the rights of vendors to be treated with dignity like other citizen as enshrined in Section 51 of the constitution of Zimbabwe.
"BVTA is a membership organisation that represents the vendors and informal traders by engaging in policy research and advocacy to ensure that the rights and interests of vendors and informal traders are promoted and facilitated," said the trust.
