Bulawayo City Councillors have complained over delays in the rehabilitation opf roads in their wards saying this is visible due to increased potholes along the roads.

This was revealed by Councillors during a full council meeting.

Discussion ensued and Councillor Lot Siziba was concerned about lack of pothole patching in some roads in his ward (13), especially the road near the shopping centre which was in a bad state.

" Everything was at a stand-still and the required gravel was not delivered. In view of this, Councillor Siziba had in the past requested the Engineering Services Department to undertake a site visit to the affected areas," reads the latest council minutes.

"Councillor Thomani Moyo observed that although pothole patching was carried out the patches were being eroded resulting in fresh potholes on the road edges. She was also concerned about lack of maintenance of the road leading to Luveve Garage."

The minutes states that although pothole patching was done in liaison with the Councillor some roads were left unattended.

"In some cases back filling had not been done. Councillor Ernest Rafomoyo said that most of the roads patched in wards were those used by public transport. He felt that the Finance and Development Committee should be innovative and raise funds for pothole patching purposes. Money could be raised by utilising truck in sites and parking metres," reads the minutes.

"Councillor P. Moyo acknowledged that tar patching was conducted but felt that the exercise should be repeated, as the patching done earlier (the type of tar) was not satisfactory. The tar was already wearing out. He was also concerned about the delay in dumping of gravel, so that local communities could carry out repairs, under Council's supervision."
