BULAWAYO will become the first city in the country to have an amusement theme park measuring more than three hectares using solar energy.

Residents will soon be treated to a number of entertainment actives following the city fathers' approval to lease more than three hectares of land to a private company for the development of an amusement theme park in the city.

In its latest report Bulawayo City Council (BCC) states that the new amusement theme park will meet high international standards and will be solar-powered, reads the council report.

"The theme park will be the first of its kind in the country and would be solar-powered."

The park will be located in the area between Zimbabwe Trade Fair grounds and Coghlan Primary School.

Previously, the city hosted a mobile amusement theme park popularly known as the Lunar park in conjunction with the Zimbabwe Trade Fair once a year .

The Lunar park consisted of a number of rides and games and was a once off luxury for the residents.

BCC has applauded efforts by a Bulawayo-based private company to open an amusement theme park in the city, adding that the development would go a long way in reducing crime in the proposed area.

"Part of the area had become a haven for vagrants and criminals. It is anticipated that this project would improve the aesthetics of the area and reduce crime.

"The Bulawayo community is expected to benefit as a whole since the proposed project would bring families together for fun," reads part of the report.
