Joshua Nkomo statue site deserted

With a week to go, there is still little activity at the proposed late Vice-President Joshua Nkomo statue site in Bulawayo.

Government says it would be erected by October 18 along Main Street.

However, by mid day Friday the site was deserted by construction workers.

Plans to honour Nkomo through the mounting of a life-size statue have on previous occasions flopped due to lack of funding after an initial attempt in 2010 was reversed, as the Nkomo family complained at the government's unilateral decision.
