A SELF-EMPLOYED electrician in Bulawayo has appeared in court for allegedly bridging electricity for seven months thereby depriving Zesa of revenue.

Future Ncube (28), of Number 16 Irenecook in Ilanda pleaded not guilty to abstracting or diverting electricity current when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Ms Gladmore Mushove on Tuesday. He was remanded out of custody on his own cognisance to 4 November.

Allegations are that sometime in April this year Ncube connected Zesa power cables at his house and allegedly by-passed the meter box to avoid being charged.

The offence came to light when Zesa electricians visited the house after getting a tip-off from neighbours that Ncube had bridged electricity and was using power free of charge. The court was told that the electricians checked the meter box and discovered that Ncube had allegedly by-passed it.

Further investigations showed that Ncube had been using electricity without paying since April and a report was made to the police leading to his arrest.

Mr Kudakwashe Jaravaza is representing the State.
