BULAWAYO-BASED pressure group Ibhetshu Likazulu has been angered by the First Lady Grace Mugabe equating President Mugabe to a priest ordained by God.

The pressure group said a true priest has the ability to apologise for any wrongdoing but President Mugabe has not done so for Matabeleland massacres.

They said President Mugabe is struggling to say "I am sorry' which will be enough to solicit forgiveness from the region.

On Tuesday in Mazowe , the First Lady told scores of religious leaders that her husband was just like one of them.

She said "President Mugabe is a pastor; when he speaks, I think when you hear him speak, you can hear that he is ordained by God. He is a pastor".

The First Lady is holding rallies dubbed "meet the people rallies" where she is outlining her vision as the new women's league boss.

However, Ibhetshu Likazulu secretary-general Mbuso Fuzwayo said its sad for President Mugabe to be elevated to a priest.

"It's unfortunate for anyone two equate Mugabe with a priest after mascaraing thousands of people in Matabeleland region and has never shown any remorse by just saying "I am sorry" which is the least that people of Matabeleland can get from him.

" It's sad that even the priests who went to Mazoe where the name of the Almighty was abused appear not to stand for the truth," said Fuzwayo.

He added: "As Ibhetshu likazulu in which we can't have access to her like the priests, we wish to ask her through the media that people in Matabeleland still need a sorry on Matabeleland genocide and still the marginalisation of the region and grabbing of farms by outsiders to be addressed.

An estimated 20 000 people perished in Matabeleland and the Midlands in the 1980s in what has become known as the Gukurahundi genocide.
