A Harare drug dealer was bashed and chased away from Egypt in Highfields suburb after his customers insulted an old granny.

Eye witnesses allege Tawanda Dzaru (30) a drug peddler in Highfields but resides in Glenorah sells all sorts of illegal drugs and is an ex-convict and popular among the youths in Highfields.

Yesterday (Friday) one of his intoxicated customers insulted gogo Mwanje after he was told stop using the toilet since there was no water.

"Dzaru was bashed after his customer shouted obscene language on our grandmother so boys in Egypt teamed up and bashed the "jazzman" since his customer had fled but it was wiser to deal with the source of the trouble, his trade is the reason why the youths in this area behave waywardly," said Chief Mazondo.

Meanwhile drug abuse has become the order of the day especially pills of the mentally challenged popularly referred to as mangemba.

Youths prefer mangemba because they are cheap and one pill costs 10 cents and a tray of 12 pills costs a dollar.

Many youths have resorted to drug abuse due to idleness, poverty and unemployment.
