A 40-YEAR-OLD Harare man has been arrested on charges of kidnapping after he was allegedly linked to the disappearance of a Mufakose man believed to be in a relationship with his wife.
The suspect, Innocent Maendesa, of Warren Park, was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare magistrate Barbara Chimboza, who advised him to apply for bail at the High Court as the charge is classified under serious offences.
It is the State's case that on July 1 this year, Maendesa had an altercation with Silas Chinaa (Jnr), whom he accused of having an extra-marital affair with his wife, Rutendo Myambo, dating back from as far as 2007.
The State alleges as a result, Maendesa sent a short text to Chinaa, which read: "Hie, days are numbered!"
The message was allegedly sent after Maendesa realised that Myambo and Chinaa were still seeing each other.
Chinaa allegedly went missing on the same day he received the message after he had gone to park his car at Mucherechesi car park in Mufakose.
It is alleged Chinaa's vehicle was later discovered by the police unlocked in the car park with its keys on the front seat and his mobile phone in the front door panel.
The State alleges since then, Chinaa had never been seen. Investigations revealed that Maendesa was the last person to communicate with Chinaa before his kidnapping.
Sebastian Mutizirwa appeared for the State.
