ZAPU joins the nation, the Ministry of Health and families of the 21 health workers who perished in a traffic accident in Tsholotsho's Jimila this weekend. The workers, who were on anti-malaria campaign perished while on national duty to save precious lives in the malaria prone areas of Matebeleland North.

ZAPU offers heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased. May their souls rest in eternal peace. We cherish and find comfort in their commitment to service to the country, particularly in the provision of health services and prevention of deadly diseases such as malaria. We also wish the injured a speedy recovery and appreciate their commitment.

ZAPU takes this opportunity to remind the authorities in government on the need to expeditiously rehabilitate and recondition our roads.  The bad state of our roads, besides human error, is a major contributor to numerous accidents that have unnecessarily claimed lives on the country's roads. May the Jimila tragedy be the last where precious and valuable lives are lost on our roads.
