A 33-year-old man from Chikwidibe B village under chief Chipuriro in Guruve was arrested on Monday after he allegedly murdered his 2 months old baby by smashing him on the floor.

Farai Kanjere is reported to have had a misunderstanding with his wife Constance Mutare over infidelity issues hence the wife left for her parents' homestead with the deceased on Sunday.

Mashonaland Central police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Petros Masikati confirmed the case without shedding more light.

"I heard of the case but unfortunately l am not in the office today," said Masikati.

A witness Sekai Padya told this reporter that Kanjere followed his wife to his parents' homestead begging for forgiveness over their misunderstanding but was denied access to his family and he grabbed the deceased from his mother's hands before fleeing.

"After Mutare went to her parents, Kanjere followed the next day and he was denied access to his family by her wife's step father Tompson Mutara (56) and this did not auger well with him to the extent that he forcibly took the baby from his mother's hands," said Padya.

It is further alleged that Kanjere took his son (Jaisom Kanjere) to his homestead and smashed him to the ground in rage.

"The angry Kanjere went with his son to his house where he smashed him killing him in the process since he broke his skull and brains splattering out, a police report was made at Guruve police leading to his arrest," she said.

In a separate incident a group of armed robbers reportedly pounced on Kemashenjere mine in Guruve where they was an exchange of gun fire before they robbed four tonnes of gold ore on Saturday.

Sources close to investigations allege the group of robbers were using four unregistered vehicles and they fled unnoticed after the robbery.

"A group of robbers pounced on Kemashenjere mine and fired three gun shots security guards at the mine retaliated by firing two shots to scare the robbers but they did not budge, instead they robbed four tonnes of gold ore which they loaded in four unregistered vehicles they were using," said the source.

The unregistered vehicles comprised of two Honda Fit, one Nissan Caravan mini bus and UD Nissan lorry which the guards failed to recognise their colours.
