Alexandra Ngwenya, a 28-year-old wanted Njube thug, was apprehended at a busy intersection near Nketa Drive and Masiyephambili Way, ending months of terror that plagued Bulawayo's suburbs.
Ngwenya, known as the ringleader in a series of armed robberies, carjackings, and thefts, had been on the run since November 2024. His capture on May 16, 2025, was the result of quick action by a vigilant victim who spotted him lurking in the area and raised the alarm.
"Members of the public quickly joined forces to apprehend him before handing him over to detectives," confirmed Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele.
Ngwenya was part of a ruthless trio alongside Zibusiso Ndlovu of Nkulumane and Tyson Taylor Moyo (29) of Nketa 8, both currently behind bars awaiting trial. The gang is accused of storming homes at gunpoint, carjacking victims, and stealing trust property valued at US$4,000.
Police sources say the gang allegedly stole over US$14,400 in total, but only US$5,000 has been recovered so far.
Following the arrest of his accomplices by CID Homicide detectives in December 2024, Ngwenya disappeared - until his dramatic takedown at the busy intersection.
"He admitted to the crimes during questioning and was fully aware that he was wanted," police confirmed.
Inspector Msebele praised the public's crucial role in bringing Ngwenya to justice.
"This partnership with the community is making it harder for robbers to operate. We won't rest until every criminal is off our streets," she said.
As Ngwenya awaits his day in court, Bulawayo residents can finally breathe easier - the streets have just become safer.
